About Me
Sheldon Kay established Sheldon Kay & Associates in 1977. He is famously known as the Rock & Roll Lawyer®. His interests include playing guitar, deejaying for his radio show, “The Rock & Roll Lawyer Show”, and legally representing many local and national artists, notably Aretha Franklin.
He is a founding member of the Entertainment Law section of the State Bar of Michigan and has been a regular speaker at Thomas M. Cooley Law School for Entertainment Law Society events. In addition to his speaking engagements at Cooley Law School, he has done numerous free seminars for local musicians and the organization, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
As a musician himself, he understands the needs of musicians and strives to help all artists familiarize themselves with the legal aspects of the music industry from contracts, royalties, to trademarks and copyrights.
Sheldon is a graduate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School where he excelled in the area of criminal law. Since graduating in 1979, Sheldon defended thousands of clients involved in a variety of charges.
Sheldon is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and The Federal Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
